Asian Tsunami Disaster 12/26/2004
A series of earthquakes in Sumatra, the largest of magnitude 9.0, triggered deadly tsunamis in the Indian Ocean on a Sunday morning, causing massive destruction to the South Asian region and its neighbouring parts. Among the affected countries were: Indonesia, Sri Lanka, South-East India, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Thailand, Maldives, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Burma, Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania and Seychelles. The earthquake is thought to have stolen the lives of around 228,000 to 310,000 and injured millions more in this multi-national disaster.
