Boxing Day + 13
The number 13 is considered unlucky by many around the world, but not Boxing Day. However, now both seem to be awfully bad to millions. Thirteen days after the horrific disaster, the number seems to have played a vital role in the aftermath springing up from the lucky dip.
A solid stand
More than a week after giving up on the search for survivors, An elderly Sri Lankan man in his late sixties managed to come out of the mounds of tsunami rubble thirteen days since he went in (Why 13?). He was miraculously found alive in the ruins of a building devastated by the killer tsunami. After nearly two weeks trapped in the ruins of what was once a shop, he was suffering from malnutrition and dehydration, a broken arm and early symptoms of pneumonia. Just like us, He too is bewildered on how he survived.
But sadly, the number has a very limited supply of fortune. So it gives the most of what it's so good at bringing. And this time; more lives.
PTE - Post Tsunami Explosions
Well, it's not a standardized definition, but thought it might be appropriate as the first manned explosion took place in the country after thirteen days since the 12/26 disaster. Two hand grenades hurled in a clash between Christians and Hindus killed at least three people and wounded 37 in a part of eastern Sri Lanka where international aid workers were helping tsunami victims.
No aid workers were injured and Mr. Annan (U.N. Secretary General) was in Colombo at the time of the explosion. It's said that Christians were angry that Hindus had demolished a church and may have carried out the attack in retaliation. A very rare incident in a place where both Christians and Hindus, together, stand against the majority of Buddhists rather than against themselves. (Hint: 13!)
